Student writing is important to me because it gives an insight to what we will be seeing in the future, and it opens up new doors for students who believe their paths to be limited. Writing can show what one student could potentially contribute to the world when it is our turn to lead the generations behind us and when our time of following the older generations is over. It not only shows older generations what we are capable of, but it also can show each individual student what they can accomplish if they put their mind to it. There are a number of students who have a difficult time finding their way in this wild world we live in, but when creativity is stumbled upon, a whole new door that leads to a whole new life is opened. I also find that writing is an exceptional outlet for feelings. Writing allows one to pour all of their emotions onto a simple, plain piece of paper, and turn it into a work of art - a work of art that could be shared with others and bring the writer into the light of sharing creative thought, or it could be a piece for their eyes only. For these reasons, I believe creating opportunities for students to discover their voice through writing is extremely important.
